Nine universities sign Memorandum of Understanding
Prof. Dr. Ulrich Glassmann, Vice President for European and International Affairs of the EUF, has signed a "Memorandum of Understanding" together with eight other universities from France, Greece, Ireland, Norway, Spain, Cyprus and Slovakia in Limerick, Ireland. The now nine universities are thus once again applying for extensive funding from the European Commission as a "European University".
Two new partner universities
The alliance - "European Margins Engaging for Regional and Global Empowerment" (EMERGE) meanwhile has gained two new partner universities: The Spanish University of a Coruña from the Galicia region in north-western Spain and the Greek Democritus University of Thrace, located in north-western Greece near the Bulgarian border. Both universities are an ideal complement in the alliance for the concept of productive and creative peripheries.
Expanding and deepening the cooperation
Prof. Dr. Ulrich Glassmann travelled to Limerick together with Dr. Thomas Duttle, Coordinator for International Cooperation and Virtual Mobility, Marita McGrory, Advisor for European and International Affairs and Dr. Isabelle Leitloff, Senior Advisor to the President and Executive Director of the University Council, to sign the Memorandum of Understanding.
Topics included the European Education Pathway, student and staff mobility, lifelong learning and the project's communication strategy. In addition to the EMERGE working meetings, discussions took place with various research centres at the University of Limerick, such as the "European Centre for the Study of Hate", the "Centre for Environmental Research" or the "Ralahine Centre for Utopian Studies". The general aim is to expand and deepen cooperation.
