Statement on the situation in Iran

Europa-Universität Flensburg condemns the violent crackdown on peaceful demonstrators and the continued violation of human rights in Iran. It stands in solidarity with its students and scholars with Iranian roots and families.

The Europa-Universität Flensburg follows the current situation in Iran with great concern. Since 22-year-old Mahsa Amini was arrested by the Iranian morality police for violating the Islamic dress code and died in custody on 16 September, thousands of people, among them many students and scholars, have been demonstrating for freedom, the protection of human rights, and equal rights for women. The Iranian regime is responding to these peaceful protests with violence, sealing off universities and suspending lectures.

The EUF strongly condemns the violent action against the demonstrators and the continued violation of human rights in Iran. As a university, we stand in solidarity with the Iranian universities, students and scholars under threat.

We also stand in solidarity with those students and scholars at our university who are from Iran or have Iranian roots or families and who now have to worry the most about their relatives, fellow students and colleagues back home. Our deepest sympathy goes to those who are injured or suffer deaths in their own families or friends during the demonstrations in Iran.
