Research Profile of Europa-Universität Flensburg

Core research areas at Europa-Universität Flensburg

The research orientation of Europa-Universität Flensburg reflects its historical roots as well as its strategic in development in three thematic areas.

Firmly anchored in the educational sciences and teacher training since its founding, the university is also strongly oriented towards European studies. EUF incorporated this second research pillar in 2014, after adopting the Europa- designation to signal its commitment to European topics.

For these core areas, EUF’s signature research centers—the Center for Research on Education, Instructions School and Socialization (ZeBUSS) and the Interdisciplinary Centre for European Studies (ICES)—support scholarship and exchange across institutes and disciplines.

Transformation / sustainability studies, a third core research area, has emerged from the university’s core mission and values. For this broadly interdisciplinary area, the Jackstädt Center Flensburg (JZF), the Norbert Elias Center for Transformation Design & Research (NEC), and the Center for Sustainable Energy Systems (ZNES) offer solid underlying support and resources.
