To apply to the ProRef program, you must already be in Germany and have a recognized refugee status. Otherwise your application will not be processed. This also applies to the online course.
Application portal
On this page you will find all the information about the application and criteria. To apply for the program, you must first complete the online application form and upload the required documents. Applications only accepted, if submitted via our online application portal including all required documents.
Courses 2023/24
Dear interested parties,
all places in our German courses and our English online course are currently full.
Our new round of courses starts in June 2024 and runs until the end of November 2024. You can apply for the next round of courses from February 1, 2024. All applications received will then be reviewed. Feedback on applications will be provided shortly.
When applying, please submit the required documents in full:
- Language certificate
- School and university leaving certificates in original language and translation (if available)
- Copy of identity card/proof of residence
IMPORTANT: Incomplete applications cannot be checked immediately and the process will take longer.

Who can apply?
You can apply for a place in the ProRef program if you:
- have a refugee background and
- have a university entrance qualification and
- have language skills in German or English of at least B1 level and
- would like to take up a course of study or continue studying after the end of the program.
We strive for a balanced gender ratio in all language courses. Europa-Universität Flensburg particularly welcomes applications from qualified women.
To check whether your degree is recognized in Germany and whether you meet the admission requirements, you can use the DAAD admission database.
- Degree certificate entitling the holder to study at a university in Germany (original or certified copy with translation into German or English by a sworn translator).
- If available: Study certificates (BA or MA transcript or certificate in original or certified copy with translation in German or English by a sworn translator).
To check whether your school-leaving certificate is recognized in Germany and whether you meet the admission requirements, you can use the admission database of the DAAD.
Proven language skills at B1 level in German or English.

Take up a course of study after the end of the program:
- Please inform yourself about the study programs offered at the EUF.
- Under certain conditions, there is also the possibility to gain a doctoral degree.
How do I apply?
Application process
Applications are only possible via our online application form:
A complete application requires the following documents:
- Proof of refugee status (copy of ID)
- B1 language certificate
- School and study certificates (certificate/diploma and transcript of records)
We would like to explicitly point out that applications are only accepted via the online application portal. Please do not send application documents by e-mail or post.
After successful submission you will receive a confirmation email. Please note this does not mean you have been accepted to the program.

The following courses are offered:
- German B1+/B2 (full time /24 lessons per week)
- German BC1 (full-time/24 lessons per week)
- English B2 (part-time/12 lessons per week)
Courses start in December and in Juli.
Relevant language certificates (German or English), educational certificates and proof of residence status.

- Proof of refugee status
Proof of higher education entrance qualification:
- Diploma entitling the holder to study at a university in Germany (original or certified copy with translation into German or English by a sworn translator).

The ProRef program is funded by the state of Schleswig-Holstein, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and DAAD.
There are no costs for participants.
