Description

The "German Language Course A1.2" is for students with some previous knowledge of German, who have completed an A1.1 German language course, or have approximately 60 classroom hours of German language instruction.

The focus of this course is on basic knowledge of the German language, including everyday conversational topics and situations (greeting and presentation, nationality and language, addresses and numbers, etc.), German grammar, and vocabulary.

Vocabulary will focus on contacts, housing, day-to-day work, clothing and fashion, health and holidays.

Grammar will focus on the use of conjunctions, personal pronouns in the dative, the imperative, modal verbs, adverbs of time.

The course is 4 semester hours and is designed in such a way that the participants complete the second level (A1.2) according to the European Reference Framework.

Regular and active participation is required for successful completion of the course. This includes the completion of homework in order to continue practicing and consolidating what has been learned in the classroom.

Description

The "German Language Course A2.2" is for students with previous knowledge of German, who have achieved an A1 level (A1.1 + A1.2) in German plus A2.1, or completed 180 classroom hours of German language instruction. The course continues where the A2.1 course finished.

The focus of this course is on basic knowledge of the German language, including everyday conversational topics and situations, German grammar, and vocabulary.

Vocabulary will focus on education, sports, housing, art and culture, cultures and stereotypes.

Grammar will focus on: relative clauses (nominative and accusative), main clause , subjunctive (counseling, polite requests, wishes), temporal prepositions, subordinate clauses and genitive (name + s), indefinite pronouns, interrogative articles , verbs with prepositions, W questions with prepositions, infinitive clauses and indefinite pronouns.

Students will learn to understand a radio announcement, to make a mini-presentation, to write a story and correct it, to make a picture description and to talk about proverbs, etc.

The course is 4 semester hours and is designed in such a way that the participants complete the A2 level (A2.1 + A2.2) according to the Common European Framework of Reference (GER).

The "German Language Course B1.2" is for students who have completed the A2 and B1.1 German language courses, or completed 300 classroom hours of German language instruction.
The course is for students who would like to become independent users of the German language.

The focus of this course is on basic knowledge of the German language, including everyday conversational topics and situations with a focus on work and family life, relationships, and nature, as well as German grammar, and vocabulary.

Vocabulary will focus on professional wishes and unusual professions, the application, forms of life, love, interesting inventions, consumption, complaints, advertising, travel and holidays, urban travel, the environment and environmental problems, and environmental projects.

Grammar will focus on expressing future events, verbs with prepositions and pronominal adverbs / question words, reflexive verbs, relative sentences, local prepositions with alternating prepositions, subjunctive II, temporal connectors, temporal prepositions and passive.

Course participants will participate in games, discussions, and presentations to practice grammatical topics as well as everyday and special speech situations.

The course takes place once a week and is designed in such a way that the participants complete the second level (B1.2) of the Common European Framework of Reference in one semester.

Chapters 6 - 10 are covered in the course book.

Description

The "German Language Course B2.2"  is suitable for students with advanced knowledge. The course consolidates knowledge of German at lower levels and expands complex content.

The focus of this course is on the expansion of vocabulary, written expression, and talking about controversial topics. Students will expand their means of communication and deepen their understanding of grammar.

Students will give presentations on political and cultural topics from everyday life. Extemporaneous speaking and presentations will be given in front of an audience. Students will practice presentations in academic settings, as well as the creation of an accompanying handout. Other mediated strategies and work techniques include: Understaning reviews (book review), information from several texts, structured writing, use notes for summaries, text coherence.

Grammar: Passive with "sein" ("Zustandspassiv"), comparative sentences in the subjunctive II, modal sentences, nouns, verbs and adjectives with prepositions, indirect speech with subjunctive I, converting verbs into nouns, modal particles, participles as adjectives and connectors and prepositions with genitive.

The course takes place once a week and covers a total of 60 hours. It is designed in such a way that the participants complete the second level (B2.2 of the CEFR) in one semester.

Regular and active participation is required for successful completion of the course. This includes the completion of homework in order to continue practicing and consolidating what has been learned in the classroom.

The "German Language Course C1.2" is suitable for students with advanced German language knowledge.

The linguistic skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking) are trained and further developed in the areas of work, business, media and language.

Grammatical structures, bound to topics and communication contexts, are expanded, extended and deepened according to the communicative needs.

Emphasis on grammar is made by working on infinitive sentences in the present and past, nominalization and verbalization of conditional sentences and prepositional additions, special features of the passive, modal participle, subjective modal verbs for making assertions and presumptions, features of conditional sentences, and further connectors.

The following learning strategies and working techniques are also acquired:

    Active listening
    Writing a summary
    Lectures
    Making texts in a variety of ways
    Literary texts

Short description: Economical writing in lectures, as well as active, structured listening of scientific lectures and discussions.

The book "Hören und Mitschreiben" is devoted to the use of five authentic lectures to enable students to follow scientific lectures independently, so that these lectures can be recapitulated using the notes. In the basic chapter, basic techniques of active and predictive listening as well as significant writing techniques are taught. In the following chapters, these techniques are expanded and deepened. The lectures of well-known scientists and a science journalist are taken from the series "Aula" of the "Südwestrundfunk".

The "Campus Deutsch – Lesen" course is suitable for students at the C1 level  (based on Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). The course can also be taken by students with a B2-level through the addition of small-scale exercises and extensive pre-utilization of tasks.

The course is aimed at students who are transitioning from general language education to language for specific purposes.

The focus of this course is on the effective reading of scientific texts. Students will learn and practice five techniques for reading. These techniques enable students to develop independent reading skills of popular scientific texts with the minimum use of a dictionary. A shared basic text is edited at the beginning of the lesson where techniques are broken down into smaller steps. In addition to the basic text, there are other exercises that can be edited depending on the subject or interest of the student.
