Description
The language course Spanish A1 is suitable for learners with no previous knowledge. The aim is to impart the first basic knowledge of the Spanish language.
Based on everyday conversation topics and situations (greetings and introductions, nationality and language, addresses and numbers, etc.), basic knowledge of Spanish grammar and vocabulary will be taught.
The main topics covered in the vocabulary are: the Spanish alphabet, character traits and hobbies, tourism and holidays, means of transport and the seasons, colours, clothes and objects.
Grammar focuses on: numbers, the forms of the subject pronoun, the definite article, the demonstrative pronoun, the noun, genus and numerus, the possessive pronoun, describing holiday habits, present indicative, the direct and indirect object pronoun.
The course takes place with two lessons weekly during the semester and is designed in such a way that the participants complete level A1 according to the European Framework of Reference in one semester.
Regular and active participation is a prerequisite for successful completion of the course. Homework is also required in order to practise and consolidate what has been learned.

Description
The Spanish course A2 is suitable for learners with first previous knowledge. The course builds on the A1 course.
Using everyday conversation topics and situations, the basic knowledge of Spanish grammar and vocabulary will be developed. The following topics are mainly dealt with in the development of word fields: Learning, health, food, professions, the diary, city, historical data, home and travel.
In grammar, the following is covered, among others: The present indicative of regular verbs, irregular verbs, the reflexive verbs, frequency ("siempre, todos los días, muchas veces"), adverbs of quantity, the adjectives, genus of nouns, the impersonal forms with "se", the perfect tense (formation and use), irregular participles, evaluation, the time and dates, indications with reference to the future, question words. Afterwards, the focus is on understanding a radio report, giving a mini-presentation, writing and correcting a story, describing a picture, talking about proverbs, etc.
In grammar, among other things, the following are covered: Comparisons, "más/menos...que, mejor, peor" superiority, equality, relative clauses, The "Indefinido" of regular verbs, differences in the use of perfect and "Indefinido", past tense words, Questions about the past ("cuándo, en que año, cuánto tiempo"), locatives, the affirmative imperative, differences in the use of "Indefinido" and Imperfect, differences in the use of "Indefinido", Perfect and Imperfect.
The course takes place with 4 SWS during the lecture period and is designed so that the participants complete level A2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

Description
Language of instruction: Spanish and German
Course description:
This course is aimed at students or university members who have previously completed A2 level. Focusing on common topics and everyday conversation situations (e.g. at work, at university, discussions with friends, etc.), this course has the scope of B1 knowledge as its main objective. In elaborating the different areas of vocabulary, various topics from units 11-18 of the corresponding book (see below) will be covered.
Grammatical approach to B1
- The use of the simple conditional and the present subjunctive.
- Speculating about different constellations in the future or expressing wishes and requests
- Different uses of the past indicative (especially the indefinite, imperfect and pluperfect).
- Complex uses of (in)direct objects and prepositions
- Use of periphrasis for a creative and variable style
- Expressing tastes, feelings, preferences, values and giving contrasting opinions
- Comparing elements and evaluating them
- Impersonal and involuntary forms and describing processes with the passive
- Interrogative and indirect sentences
- Expanding vocabulary in areas of culture, society, education and economics.
Realisation:
Given the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be a separation of face-to-face phases by Webex (always on Mondays) as well as asynchronous at home (regarding homework or portfolio) or by other platforms (Moodle, Kahoot, etc.) if applicable. As it has to comply with 4SWS (4 * 45m = 3 whole hours in total), this course will be set up as follows:
Classes: Mondays, 16.15-19.45 with 3 breaks of 10 minutes (60 hours).
Asynchronous work: during the week at home (60 hours)
Portfolio work: assigned days (30 hours)
Requirements for successful completion
Therefore, continuous participation of the students is required. However, there is no participation control and no oral grades are run throughout the course. It is considered essential to complete the assignments through the portfolio and to be present for marking events (see below "Course Notes").
Evaluation of your merits:
In this course your progress is continuously assessed. The final grade is made up of all elements of the portfolio which has three main elements: written reflective case study assignment (10%), playful group presentation on the basis of the case study (30%) and overall portfolio tasks (60%). To complete your portfolio, you must meet the requirements and demands and hand in the completed portfolio in a timely manner.

Course description:
This course is aimed at students or university members who have previously completed a B1 level. Focusing on more special and professional topics as well as more in-depth conversational situations (e.g. at work, at university, in public or private discussions, etc.), this course has the scope of knowledge of B2.1 as its main objective. In elaborating the different areas of vocabulary, knowledge of the Spanish-speaking world and students' own interests, various topics of Hispanic people, B2 grammar and contemporary Latin American literature will be touched upon (see below).
Grammatical focus of B2.1
- The use of the simple conditional and the present subjunctive.
- Different uses of the past indicative (especially indefinite, imperfect and pluperfect).
- Complex uses of (in)direct objects in the passive voice.
- Using phrasal verbs to extend and enrich vocabulary
- Understanding other cultures and values in different work, legal and social environments.
- Prohibiting acts with imperatives with varying degrees of formality
- Relative phrases (possessive and/or prepositional)
- Future and past of desires or unknowns (perfect subjunctive compound).
Realisation:
Given the pandemic conditions, there will be a separation of face-to-face phases via Webex (always on Thursdays) as well as asynchronous at home (regarding assignments, literature or portfolio) or via other platforms (Moodle, Kahoot, etc.) if applicable. As it has to comply with 2SWS, this course will be set up as follows:
Lectures: Thursdays, 14.15-15.45 (30 hours).
Asynchronous work: during the week at home (30 hours)
Portfolio work: assigned days (15 hours)
Requirements for successful completion

Un curso para comprender y practicar el uso de las formas del pasado y del subjuntivo, además de otros temas complejos de la gramática española de nivel intermedio-alto.
Durante las clases vamos a repasar la teoría, pero sobre todo, vamos a realizar diferentes tipos de ejercicios, tanto individuales como de grupo.
Además, vamos a observar y discutir el uso de la gramática en contextos reales, como cuentos, canciones o películas.
