The course provides information and tools to help you write an academic text in English during your time in Flensburg. During the first part of the course, we will work through exercises dealing with academic language use, grammar and text structure. In the second part of the course you will be writing short texts and developing your self-correction skills.

- Mini-course for those wishing to write well-structured, coherent and idiomatic academic texts
Identical to Academic English Writing A, this short course provides information and tools to enable you to write effective academic texts in English. Exercises will make us of authentic academic texts and deal with topics such as academic style and register, cohesion & coherence, sentence & paragraph structure, punctuation, citing and referencing. Following on from this mini-course, writing sessions (Academic English ‒ writing session C) will be provided to further practice the acquired skills.

The course provides information and exercises dealing with a range of grammar and vocabulary topics, such as: verb forms, word and information order, active and passive voice, formality, cohesion, redundancy, collocations and hedging. The aim of the course is to support your academic English language needs during your time in Flensburg. We will work through exercises dealing with a range of topics including: verb forms for present, past & future time, clauses (relative, conditional etc.), articles, adverbs & adjectives, prepositions, passive voice, sentence structure and linking, formality, collocations and hedging. Conversation will be encouraged during the sessions to improve fluency.

- Writing sessions for those working on an existing writing project (presentation, essay, term paper, thesis etc.)
The sessions provide the space to work on an existing writing project without distractions, the possibility to exchange ideas with others, and the opportunity to obtain a consultation with a native speaker about your written text or writing plans. Support will be provided for the self-correction of your text. The sessions run throughout the semester.
Please note: Entry into the writing sessions is possible throughout the semester

- Writing sessions for those wishing to write correct and unambiguous English who do not necessarily require the use of academic English
The sessions aim to improve general writing skills through the writing of everyday texts. Individual help will be provided with texts of your choice. Previous participants have asked for help with application letters for jobs and internships, CVs, emails, preparation for language exams etc. Feedback will be provided on common issues such as grammar, word choice, sentence structure and linking, punctuation etc. Self-correction skills will be aided.
Please note: Entry into the sessions is possible at any time during the semester.
