The EU programme for education and training, Youth and Sport, Erasmus+, offers education grants in the field of higher eduction for the following purpose
- Studying and internships
- Teaching or training for higher education staff
- Strategic partnerships between educational institutions from participating countries
- Alliances of knowledge between institutions from the sectors of employment and education
- Guaranteed loans for graduate students to finance their studies abroad

For Students
Student Mobility for Studies (SMS)
After completion of the first year, students can receive funding for studying abroad in order to broaden their social and intercultural competences and to increase their chances on the job market. They get to know the academic system of a foreign country as well as the partner university´s methods of teaching and studying.
Erasmus+ Studies (SMS) - facts
- the Erasmus+ programme covers study visits to only European partner universities of Europa-Universität Flensburg
- the study visits can be for one or twi semesters, the minimum period is three months
- multiple funding is possible: for up to 12 months for each section of the studies
- the application process st the host university is simplified and no tuition fees are charged
- home and host universities support the application process and assist with the organisation of the stay
- the host university usually assist with finding accommodation and offers Erasmus+ students a cultural programme as well as a preparatory language course
- for the purpose of recognition of the studies undertaken at the partner university, as individual learning agreement is concluded between the students and both home and host universities
- the Learning Agreement details the courses taken and the ECTS credit points awarded
- the Erasmus+ scholarship depends on the country of destination
- in the academic year 2020/21 rates were as follows:
- group 1 - € 450: Denmark, Finnland, Ireland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden, UK
- group 2 - € 390: Belgium, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Spain, Cyprus
- group 3 - € 330: Bulgaria, Estonia, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Republic of Macedonia, Czech Republic, Turkey, Hungary
- in the academic year 2020/21 (fall 2020 and spring 2021) the financial funding of all mobilies will be calculated on the basis of the confirmed period of stay
- upon return, a Transcript of Records will be issued which certifies the courses completed and credits obtained
Please be aware that moving abroad is a precondition for financial support.
Student Mobility for Training (SMP)
Erasmus+ provides financial support for internships to students in host institutions in other European countries. EU-institutions and institutions which manage EU-programmes are excluded as well as diplomatic missions of the countries of origin of the students. Students may do Erasmus+ internships in companies and organisations in Europe.
The application for a scholarship can be submitted as soon as the placement is confirmed. Applications are viewed at the beginning of each month. Please note that in order to guarantee a notification on the scholarship in time, applications should be submitted at least two months prior to the beginning of the internship.
The EUF grants two Erasmus+ scholarships for graduate internships per year. Application deadline for internships in the following year is December 1st.
Erasmus+ Internship (SMP) - facts
- recognition of training acheivements completed abroad
- support during internship by a contact person at the home university and a contact person within the host institution
- assistance with the preparation for internship: it ist also possible to take part in a preparatory Erasmus language course in so-called lesser-used languages
- internship agreement between universities, companies and students
- in the academic year 2020/21 rates were as follows:
- group 1 - € 555: Denmark, Finnland, Ireland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden, UK
- group 2 - € 495: Belgium, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Spain, Cyprus
- group 3 - € 435: Bulgaria, Estonia, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Republic of Macedonia, Czech Republic, Turkey, Hungary
- Funding rates may vary depending on the availability of project funds. The exact funding amount is stated in the allowance.
- the Europa-Universität Flensburg currently grants funding for a period of either 60, 90 or 120 days which implies that the eligibility period may be shorter than the actual internship
- non-paid internships are funded preferentially
- no funding is granted for internships with a salary of more than € 400

The application has to include the Learning Agreement (in German or English) completely filled and signed by the intern and the host institution.
For Administrative Staff
Staff Mobility for Training (STT)
To support the internationalisation of the universities, the Erasmus+ programme provides funding for training measures for university teaching and administrative staff.

repeated funding is possible, first-time applicants have priority
What can be funded?
stays abroad for training measures such as
- job shadowing

- unit costs for the journey, graded according to distance
- up to 500km distance: € 180
- up to 2000km distance: € 275
- up to 3000km distance: € 360
- up to 4000km distance: € 530

- unit costs for each day of the stay, graded according to host country

- once funding is confirmed, please submit teh programme documents
- please remember to hand in a travel authorisation request
- ask someone at the host university to sign the Confirmation of Stay
- upon return, hand in the confirmation ans report to the International Center
- an online report will be asked for automatically
For Academic Staff
Staff Mobility for Teaching (STA)
Erasmus+ supports guest lectureships at European partner universities. During their stay, guest lecturers shall strengthen the European dimension of the host university, complement the courses offered and pass on their expertise.
During such a stay, the development of joint study programmes of the partner universities as well as an exchange of teaching contents should also play a role.
If teaching and training are combined, the mandatory teaching assignment is reduced from 8 to 4 hours.
Who is eligible?
- professors as well as lecturers who have a contractual relationship with the EUF
- lecturers who do not receive a remuneration
- lecturers working on a contractual basis
- emeritus professors as well as retired teachers
- research assistants
What can be funded?
A stay as a guest lecturer, teaching at least eight hours per stay or per week respectively. The length of the stay has to be at least two days.
How is the stay funded?
- unit costs for the journey, graded according to distance
