16/02/2017 - EUF looking towards Europe

Annual Reception @ Europa-Universität Flensburg

The year could not have started better at the Europa-Universität Flensburg. The words most spoken in the speeches last night was "Europe" – either because there is a need for the university to orient itself more towards Europe or because of the B.A. European Cultures and Society. This was also the first year in which the prize for Excellence in European Research was awarded. All the attention was turned to the first recipient of this prize - Prof. Dr. Hauke Brunkhorst - for his outstanding scientific research in European topics.

07/10/2016 - EUCS student defining "Peace" in Schleswig-Holstein

What is the definition of Peace?

To celebrate its 70th anniversary, the German state Schleswig-Holstein decided to call upon its friends to shoot some videos showing a place that they liked or explaining a concept connected to this state. The aim was to form a lexicon and have it in the main website of Schleswig-Holstein.

Under "F" for "Frieden", or in English "Peace", we can find Qais Hatefi, a new student of the B.A. European Cultures and Society, presenting us with his own definition.

Cheers to Qais for his help and to Schleswig-Holstein for its anniversary.

Take a look at the entire lexicon here.

And at the video about "peace" here.

01/09/2016 - Campus Angels are here for you

Need a room? Need help settling in? You don´t know what to do until the semester starts?

The Campus Angels are here for you!

They sit at the Infodesk of the Erweiterungsgebaude, commonly known as EB, and are happy to answer questions and orient new students either personally, per telephone or per email.

They are right now looking for rooms available in the city of Flensburg to make it easier to settle new students and especially international students freshly arriving to the University. For international students especially, they provide important guidance in what concerns German bureaucracy: sign a rental contracts, open a bank account, obtain health insurance, finish the matriculation process, register in the city hall, buy a sim-card...

They are also happy to help newly arrived students to start getting to know the city, the university and one another. For that they organize a series of gatherings, events and parties.

16/05/2016 - EUCS presents itself to the world

During the last two weeks the B.A. European Cultures and Society presented itself to the public in several events.

The B.A. European Cultures and Society (EUCS) has participated in a series of events, in which it had the opportunity to present itself, to answer questions, to talk to our partners and most important of all, to talk to interested future bachelor students.

From the 2nd to the 4th of May the Europa-Universität Flensburg celebrated its traditional Future Week (Zukunftswoche). During this week regular classes are put on hold for the students and the university staff to discuss the future of Europe and in this context also the future of the university.

During this week, the B.A. European Cultures and Society had the chance to meet the representatives of some of our partner universities spread through the world. Our partner universities were very interested in our bachelor and were excited to extend their cooperation, that is, to accept students from EUCS and to send students to attend our lectures. (02.05.2016)

The B.A. EUCS was also offered the chance to participate in the Bachelor Information Day aimed at showing the several study programs that both the Europa Universität Flensburg and the Hochschule Flensburg have in cooperation with the University of Southern Denmark. In this event, Prof. Dr. Reichold, Head of Studies of this B.A., thoroughly explained the concept of the study-program to a room full of interested students. (03.05.2016)

The week after, EUCS was present at the Europa-Universität stand in the Nordjob Fair that took place in Flensarena, in Flensburg. We were pleasantly surprised to see so many people interested on the B.A. European Cultures and Society, asking concrete questions about the program and how to apply. (10-11.05.2016)

08/04/2016 - Exclusive image of the B.A. EUCS

The B.A. EUCS has its own exclusive image.

In the first day of April the B.A. European Cultures and Society found its representing image in this cartoon drawn by the artist Käthe Wenzel to be used exclusively by this study program.

This image was conceptualized having in mind some of the Topics and Disciplines of the EUCS program and as well its essential and practical dimension "Doing Europe". As the first image connected to the bachelor that will start this upcoming Winter Semester 2016/17, it shows how promising this study program is in terms of allowing for the development of new ideas that go beyond the mere learning of university subjects.

With this image we look forward to welcoming all the new students that will join us in October and to launch the first stepping stone to an excellent study program.
