Curriculum vitae

Thorsten Burandt (M) is working as a research associate at the Europa Universität Flensburg (EUF) within the junior research group "CoalExit", which is lead by Prof. Dr. Pao-Yu Oei. Subsequently, he is also working as a guest researcher at the Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin) as well as at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin). Currently, he is a Ph.D. student in a joint Ph.D. program between the Workgroup for Infrastructure Policy at TU Berlin and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim. His dissertation was submitted in April 2021.

His research interests include energy system modeling, decarbonization pathways, and the role of industry and hydrogen applications in the low-carbon transformation. His research is mainly focused on the application of large-scale multi-sectoral energy system models to analyze techno, techno-economic, and ecological research questions within the context of a low-carbon energy transformation.  

Thorsten Burandt is working in several international research projects, providing in-depth regional multi-sectoral analyses of sustainable energy transition pathways. He also holds an M.Sc. in Industrial Engineering from TU Berlin. As part of his Ph.D. program, he spent 13 months working and living at NTNU in Trondheim, Norway.
