Sustainability in textile practice: Intercultural dialog with traditional symbols in contemporary design

In this project promoted by the German Academic Exchange Service and funded by the Federal Foreign Office, the two institutes of the university  cooperate with Mimar Sinan University in Istanbul and L'école supérieure des arts visuels in Marrakech. The subject matter of the project is the textile practice of the surface design integrated in economic and cultural contexts of selected areas in the Islamic region. On a yearly changing basis, a cooperation with cooperatives and foundations that particularly support the women´s textile practice is agreed upon in order to study the design and manual production of textile products as well as to investigate the specific social and economic conditions. The research interest of Prof. Ilona Ebbers and her employees, Kirsten Mikkelsen as well as Dr. Teita Bijedic, involves the economic aspects of the project, whereas the focus of Prof. Norbert Schütz and Anna Sophie Müller involves the textile-aesthetic and creative aspects.
