How the Deutschlandstipendium Works

The Deutschlandstipendium is modeled after the principle of public-private partnership. Businesses, foundations, and/or private individual donors pay a total of 150 euros per scholarship; the German federal government matches that amount, resulting in 300 euros per scholarship. Either one or several private sponsors can fund the same scholarship.

The universities take on the central role of mediators for the Deutschlandstipendium. They approach potential sponsors, select scholarship recipients, and organize the funding. They also specify the requirements for the selection process and the scholarship awarding criteria.

The Deutschlandstipendium is based on the Act on the Creation of a National Scholarship Program (StipG), which came into force in 2010.
