Program profile

The European Studies master’s degree program at Europa-Universität Flensburg focuses mainly on regional development. Some municipal and regional agencies and organizations prioritize promoting cultural, educational, and societal underlying conditions in certain areas, in order to ensure the constant growth and development of the population’s living conditions. Thus, there is a demand for trained staff whose knowledge and skills enable them help prepare, support and implement development tasks in European regions.

This is an international program with students from all over the world. A key focus is to give students a comprehensive and detailed overview of relevant topics in the humanities and social sciences, such as economic and political theories, European law, European ideas, and European contemporary history. The program includes both required and elective courses, with the required courses built up around the program’s core axes: Europe, regions, and development.

There is a growing demand for qualified graduates who have an understanding of regional and European problems. As this emergent market takes shape, we expect new job opportunities to arise in areas such as:

  • Private institutions
  • Educational institutions such as schools and universities
  • Private companies, including consulting companies, and other private actors
  • Non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

Graduates will gain access to international employment opportunities with organizations such as these:

  • The European Union

  • The OSCE

There may also be employment opportunities with other supranational organizations, as well as regional cooperation institutions that deal with European or transnational problems. Some examples include:

  • The Alps-Adriatic Alliance or similar institutions.

Suitable positions may also exist with any of the more than 150 institutionalized or formalized transboundary cooperation arrangements in Europe.
