Lecturing in English for non-native speakers is a challenge, not only in terms of language proficiency but also in the choice of methodology. For giving effective lectures it is crucial to be relatively fluent and confident in English, and at the same time to match the right methods with the students’ learning goals.

In this  workshop you will be able to practise your English language skills and learn about effective teaching techniques.  The focus of this workshop is on trying out your own mini-lectures, as well as creating a stimulating and interactive learning atmosphere. We will also address the additional challenge of lecturing in English to a mainly German audience. The mini-lectures will be video-recorded. You will receive detailed individual feedback about language and methodology and an ‘action plan’ with tips for the development of your language skills and lecturing style.

Teaching seminars in English is a challenge for non-native speakers, not only in terms of language proficiency but also in the choice of methodology. To achieve the best results academics need to present the learning content with sufficient fluency and confidence in a foreign language, and at the same time motivate the students with the optimal teaching methods that match the students’ learning goals.

In this workshop you will be able to practise your English skills in typical seminar situations and try out a variety of effective teaching techniques. We will also address the additional challenge of communicating in  English with  a group of German-speaking students. Your contributions will be video-recorded.
