Dust CoverThere is general agreement between instructional research and public opinion: School physics is unpopular and ineffecient. The reasons for this are (amongst other things) questionable ideas on the purpose of school physics in particular and and on the role of schools in general. The discussion on the general role of schools is the starting point for the author. He demonstrates the great Facettenreichtum of childhood and adolescens and clarifies the task which has to be fulfilled by the schools in state and society. The following broad but thorough analysis of what physics means not only leads to a completely new perspective of this discipline but also to a critical asessment and questioning on the contents of the present physic instruction (lessons) at school. The passionate engagement of Jan-Peter Brau for a school that focusses on the needs of children and adolescens is also reflectd in his understanding of science. He not only shows new goals but develops a theory which helps individual teachers to define the goals of physic lesson in of goupspecific way. It is the combination of stringent pragmatism and concrete vision that stimulates the reader to rethink school physics and school. |
