You are warmly invited to a live reading with Irish author Catherine Prasifka!

Catherine will be reading from her debut novel None Of This Is Serious (Canongate 2022), which not only brought her to international attention but also put her on the An Post Irish Book Awards Newcomer of the Year shortlist in 2022. Set in dystopian Dublin under a cracked sky, the novel tells us the story of Sophie, who - utterly disaffected - deflects herself from her real life misery, that is a crippling climate, late capitalism, unemployment and unaffordable housing, with obsessive doom-scrolling on social media. The novel explores the incompatibility of the real world with the online, the vulnerabilities in yourself and your social networks, and the uncertainty and absurdity of being alive today.

The reading will take place at the English Department in room 225 (2^nd floor) on Tuesday, 19 December 2023, 6.15p.m. You will have the chance to chat with Catherine, ask her questions about her writing, and have her sign your copy of the book. The event will be in English and free of charge. No prior knowledge required. All welcome!
