VERLÄNGERT bis 28.2.2013 CfP Geographentag Passau - FS 18: "Bildungslandschaften im Wandel"
Die Bildungslandschaften befinden sich in einem grundlegenden Transformationsprozess, der im regionalen, nationalen, europäischen und globalen Rahmen sichtbar wird. Auf dem "New education market" mutieren Ausbildungsangebote und Bildungsabschlüsse zu ökonomischen Gütern, deren Marktwert im Zusammenspiel von Angebot und Nachfrage auf unterschiedlichen Maßstabsebenen ausgehandelt wird. Dieser Wandel manifestiert sich auf institutioneller Ebene in unternehmerischen Steuerungsmechanismen wie Rankings, Output- und Rentabilitätsmessungen sowie einer damit einhergehenden zunehmenden Privatisierung, gleichzeitig auch einer Diversifizierung. Im Bereich der Hochschulen werden zudem internationale Hochschulausgründungen und die Errichtung von "education hubs" mit weltumspannenden Einzugsbereichen für Studierende und Lehrende - zum Teil mit nationalstaatlicher Unterstützung - vorangetrieben. An den Knotenpunkten der globalisierten Bildungsökonomien entwickelt sich damit schon heute eine "Bildungsindustrie", deren Zugangsbarrieren insbesondere im Globalen Süden weitgehend ökonomisch definiert werden und damit weiten Teilen der Weltbevölkerung das Menschenrecht auf Bildung verwehrt.
Vor diesem Hintergrund laden wir zu dieser Sitzung Beiträge ein, die den skizzierten Wandel anhand von lokalen, regionalen oder nationalen Beispieluntersuchungen empirisch analysieren oder im Rahmen aktueller Theoriedebatten konzeptionalisieren. Bezüge zum Forschungskontext der deutschsprachigen Bildungsgeographie, der angelsächsischen "Geography of education" oder der französischen "géographie de l?éducation" sind explizit erwünscht.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE: CALL FOR PAPERS - SPACES OF EDUCATION AND CULTURAL IDENTITIES / ESPACES DE L'ÉDUCATION ET IDENTITÉS CULTURELLES, 30th June-1st July 2011

For many years the « ethnicization » of social relationships in schools and within spaces of education (e.g. school districts) has shaped cultural identities that are crucial for understanding geographies of education. In a globalized world, this phenomenon is not limited to ?difficult? schools in poor neighbourhoods, but affects all types of schools due to migratory practices and networks of pupils, families and teachers.
Cultural identity has become a key issue in human geography, but it has not yet been considered in detail in the geography of education. There is a need to analyze the growing role of education in the context of cultural pluralism as well as the meaning of religious, linguistic and ethnic affiliations for education. Examining the linkages between education and cultural identities requires an awareness of different forms of spatial relationships that contribute to the cultural making of contemporary spaces of education. This includes the growing importance of religious and linguistic claims, the active role played in schools by members of ethnic, national and religious groups, their influence on local educational politics and on the creation of new spaces of education.
For this conference, we invite papers that focus on the relations between cultural identities and spaces of education at various geographical scales (local, urban, regional, national, international). Suggested topics include but are not limited to:
- Cultural production of spaces of education
- Migration, mobility and cultural identities in the field of education
- Languages, regional identities and spaces of education
- Governance and management of spaces of education in contexts of cultural pluralism: conflicts, cooperation, claims, segregation
- Clarification of concepts such as ethnicity, cultural identity, and educational spaces (e.g., formal and informal).
Please send us an English or French summary (approximately 500 words) of your suggested paper by 15th March 2011. The conference languages will be English and French.
