Good Scientific Practice

In Germany, the freedom of science, research and studies is guaranteed by the German constitution. These freedoms are therefore bound to the fundamental values of the University’s constitution.

Good scientific practice adheres to the principles of working lege artis, documenting results, contesting all results and maintaining strict honesty when dealing with contributions by partners, competitors and predecessors. It is characterized by responsibility, honesty and transparency. Particular emphasis is placed on saving and storing primary data, complying with ethical standards and promoting young scientists.

In accordance with the recommendation of the "Self-regulation in Science" Commission (DFG-Denkschrift 2013), universities and research facilities shall appoint independent ombudsmen to whom their members may refer questions of good scientific practice and cases of suspected scientific misconduct.

The independent ombudsman at the Europa-Universität Flensburg is Prof. Dr. Anne Reichold.
